Paradise Color
Elsa Jin imagined herself as a devotee from a thousand years ago. At night, as cold starlight fell across the Buddha's face, that devotee might have felt a heavenly stillness. This became the inspiration for Paradise Color. Obsidian represents the night sky, white diamonds represent the stars, and the cool, iridescent light of the petals evokes the serene paradise found in meditation. The piece takes the form of a lily, the flower devotees most loved to offer to the Buddha.
This piece won the Gold Medal for design at the 2019 Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence.
