Fireworks, emerged while Elsa Jin was living in Florence during the spring of 2022.

Watching televised images of war, she became haunted by the terrible beauty of white phosphorus bombs. At the same time, she thought of the celebratory fireworks that regularly illuminated the city around her during festivals and public gatherings.

From this contrast emerged Fireworks — a monumental composition formed by two opposing explosions. One rises upward in celebration, while the other descends downward in death.

As Elsa Jin describes it: “The fireworks of joy rise upward. The fireworks of death fall downward.”
